Background

I am an Artist based in Surrey, UK. Originally from Derbyshire, I lived in Scotland for some time, where studied Art and Design at Falkirk College of Technology. After leaving college I worked as a designer dressmaker, mainly making theatrical and Cosplay costumes, as well as bespoke accessaries and designer wear. When I moved to Dorking I decided to go back to college and received a ‘Distinction’ in Foundation Diploma in Art and Design at the Reigate School of Art, Surrey, followed by a BA (Hons) degree in Theatre Studies (Design) at Royal Central School of Speech and Drama, London.

Not long after graduating, I drifted into painting and have been exhibiting with my local art group for many years since then.

Influences

I am always fastinated by refelctions, patterns, water, and light. Patterns and light in crowds, buildings, advertising billboards and signposts, and nature, all play a part in my work. I am always experimenting with different types of painting media and often mixing to create the desired effect I am after for the painting. My subject matter is usually taken from places I have been to, either in my local area, or various holidays.

Having always had a great passion for Japanese and other Oriental Art, both the traditional block prints and the more modern Manga comics and Japanese animation, these do influence my work, as well as other styles such as Impressionist paintings and any contemporary art.

Knitting

My creating process extends to knitting, too. I knit anything and everything - it seems particularly toys and novelty sweaters! You can find some of my work at https://www.ravelry.com/people/PixAelf

There is also a very small list of patterns that I have written.

(Always on the lookout for pattern testers, too!)
